Brandon Miller

Brandon Miller’s love for horticulture stems from a childhood spent on his family’s land, surrounded by hickory trees and bur oaks. Today, Miller is a University of Minnesota State Extension Specialist, where he focuses on helping green industry stakeholders, including nurseries and homeowners, find solutions to emerging challenges in planted landscapes, such as jumping worms. He is currently trying to identify ways to stop the spread of the invasive earthworm in commercial production and home gardening. He has ongoing collaborations testing the feasibility and efficacy of several jumping worm controls.

Miller is also an Assistant Professor in the UMN Department of Horticultural Science, where he works on finding ways to help the growing industry produce important, but uncommonly planted trees like the hickories he grew up with. He previously completed his PhD at Cornell University, studying urban horticulture. Despite a career already spent largely outdoors and among plants, Miller still loves to spend his off time exploring the forests of Minnesota with his wife.
