Working together to stop invasive jumping worms and save our soil forests gardens backyards ecosystems

Mission
We are a team of researchers collaborating with horticulture industries, farmers, land trusts, regulators, and backyard gardeners. We are working together to protect our soil from an invasive earthworm that threatens our ecosystems’ function, and capacity for sustaining life.
Vision
Our vision is that in protecting our land by providing a foundation of healthy soil, conservation efforts to protect our ecosystems can succeed.
Tiny Invaders, Big Consequences
Keystone Invaders in our Forest
When jumping worms invade the forest floor, they cause a cascade of negative ecosystem effects.
Not a Gardener’s Best Friend
In backyard gardens and no-till agriculture, jumping worms can radically change soil structure and function.

What’s at Stake
Our way of life depends on healthy, intact soil. Protecting this layer of earth is critical for climate mitigation, biodiversity, and natural resources like clean air and water.
This is what motivates our effort to find solutions to invasive earthworms that put these essential natural services at risk.
Forests and Biodiversity
Healthy forests and biodiversity support a healthy world. We cannot live without them.
Healthy Watersheds
Forested lands are the U.S. and Canada’s largest source of drinking water.
Climate Change
North American forests store decades’ worth of global carbon emissions; more than half of that sequestered carbon is in the forest floors.
Jobs and Industry
Forests and green industries directly contribute billions to the U.S. and Canada’s GDPs, and provide beloved recreational opportunities.
Sustainable Agriculture
Regenerative agriculture helps small farms thrive in a changing climate, and grows food that’s better for us and the environment.
Backyard Gardens and Homegrown Conservation
Gardening with native plants is among the most effective ways an individual can protect and restore biodiversity.
What We Do
We are finding jumping worm solutions through research, collaboration, and outreach.
